Sign This Petition to Raise the Federal Minimum Wage!
Raising the minimum wage is an important step toward an economy that works for everyone, not just the richest 1%. That's why both current elected officials and those who are pursuing elected office need to stand with us in raising the federal minimum wage.
Did You Know?
That if passed, the federal minimum wage proposals introduced by Senator Tom Harkin (D-IA) and California Representative George Miller (D-CA7) would:
Raise the federal minimum wage 85 cents a year for three years, bringing it to $9.80 by fall 2014. Then, starting in 2015 it would adjust the minimum wage each year to keep pace with the rising cost of living.
Raise pay for more than 28 million Americans.
Generate more than $25 billion in new consumer spending, which would result in more than 100,000 new full-time jobs, as higher sales lead businesses to hire more employees.
People who work for a living should be able to live off of their wages. The federal minimum wage needs to be adequate enough for working people to live on—and indexed to inflation so it doesn't fall in value every year.
By increasing the federal minimum wage we would put more money into the pockets of ordinary Americans and reduce income inequality – all while boosting our economy and putting the 99% back to work!
Sign this petition to increase the federal minimum wage and we'll deliver them to our Country’s elected leaders during an upcoming day of action. Together, we can end the growing gap between the rich and the rest of us. →
